My journey with rhythm began at the age of 4 when I started learning the piano, igniting a passion for music and the transformative power of being in the flow of music making.
After years of classical piano lessons, I delved into Jazz and improvisation, particularly drawn to syncopation and odd time signatures. In 1992, I completed a degree in music improvisation at the VCA, and my professional music career took flight.
During my late teens, I discovered Iyengar Yoga and Indian classical music, leading to multiple journeys to India to study both music and yoga, exploring the profound connection between music and our inner state.
My exploration expanded into movement, where I became a certified Yoga teacher, dancer and Contact Improvisation teacher/choreographer. I was fascinated by the space between breath, movement, pulse and the spaces between each other.
For over two decades, I’ve shared my passion for the arts by teaching music and theatre in the Australian prison system, aiming to make creativity accessible to all, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Taketina has been a pivotal part of my journey, deepening my understanding of embodied rhythm. After a captivating workshop in Melbourne, I pursued further training and am currently midway through senior training in Vienna with its founder, Reinhard Flatischler.
I currently serve as the Musical Director/Choreographer for Somebody’s Daughter Theatre Company, empowering women in prison and marginalized youth through the arts.
My journey has been a tapestry of rhythm and creativity, and I firmly believe in its power to connect and uplift us all.
